Sometimes, meaningful opportunities come when you least expect them.
We first learned about Couples for Christ, also known as CFC, outside our local church. Someone approached us and invited us to attend the Christian Life Program, or CLP. At the time, we did not know much about the organization. We decided to attend the first meeting out of curiosity and to see what it was all about.
We came without expectations, but that first meeting gave us a glimpse of a welcoming faith-based community centered on marriage, family, and growing closer to God.
The following week, we attended a large outdoor assembly at a park. Different local CFC chapters came together to pray, share food, and enjoy fellowship. It was a fun and memorable experience. We were able to see how large and supportive the community was, and how faith could bring families together in a joyful and relaxed setting.
Going Through the Christian Life Program
Our local Christian Life Program consisted of eight talks. Each meeting covered lessons that encouraged us to reflect on our relationship with God, our marriage, and the way we live out our faith.
We were unable to attend two of the scheduled talks, but the leaders made sure we did not miss the lessons completely. We were able to make up one of the talks through a one-on-one session with one of the CFC leaders.
That personal conversation became one of the most meaningful parts of our experience. It gave us the opportunity to ask questions, reflect more deeply, and speak openly about our faith. The discussion helped bring us closer to God and reminded us that spiritual growth does not always happen in large gatherings. Sometimes, it happens through a quiet and honest conversation.
Becoming Part of a Household
After completing the eighth talk, we were assigned to a household with other couples.
A household is a smaller group within CFC where couples can continue praying, learning, sharing, and supporting one another. It provides a more personal environment where families can grow in faith together.
Completing the CLP was not the end of the journey. It was the beginning of becoming part of a community that encourages us to strengthen our marriage, deepen our faith, and become more involved in the Church.
Learning to Serve Our Church
Since finishing the CLP, we have become more active in serving our local church. We have helped with the offertory and assisted with collections during Mass.
These may seem like simple responsibilities, but they have given us a meaningful way to participate in the life of the Church. Serving has helped us feel more connected to our parish and has reminded us that faith is not only about attending Mass. It is also about offering our time and being willing to help when needed.
CFC encouraged us to step outside our comfort zone and become more involved. Instead of simply attending church, we are now finding ways to serve it.
Why We Recommend Couples for Christ
Our experience with Couples for Christ and the Christian Life Program has been wonderful.
We joined because we were curious. We stayed because we found a community that helped us grow closer to God, strengthen our relationship, and become more active in serving our church.
No organization is perfect, and every chapter may have a different experience. However, we found the people to be welcoming, supportive, and committed to helping couples and families grow in their faith.
For couples who want to deepen their relationship with God, meet other faith-centered families, and find new ways to serve the Church, we highly recommend giving Couples for Christ a chance.
Sometimes, all it takes is accepting one invitation and attending that first meeting.
